happy news

i forgot to mention that evie was kind enough not to poop on any plane rides - reserving it all for the airport or when we got home. to me, that's love.

and we're back

it was a great trip. the campioni family pulled out all the stops to make sure that we had a fantastic visit. evie seemed to be the most loved kid in the world, when you threw grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends and cousins into the mix with her parents. that's something to be very happy about.

the visit was a lot of fun, the only downside being that evie never found a good sleeping rhythm while we were there, so there wasn't quite as much relaxation as i would have liked. other than that, she seemed to have a blast.

our trip back was not nearly as smooth as our trip there. evie fell asleep as our flight from houghton landed in minneapolis, then slept thru most of the layover when she was supposed to be burning off energy. this meant way too much energy on our four hour flight from msp to sfo.

ugh.

tony and kimberly were kind enough to pick us up at the airport, and evie perked up immediately at the sight of them. actually, she calmed down completely near the end of our flight when i mentioned that she was going to get to see tony. he is the pied piper.

when we got home, she was totally happy. happy to see her house, her things and her tony. it was very sweet.

oh, and she slept like a dream last night. looks like ms. evie might be a bit of a home body. maybe next time some of her cousins will come to visit her!

evie's first swim

it's day four in michigan, and i've finally had a chance to sit down and upload some pics. our trip out here was an absolute breeze. evie was great on both flights, sleeping most of the way from minneapolis to houghton. then when we got in, she was happy to have grandpa and grandma pick her up, and she seemed to be comfortable at their house. we went to uncle ben and aunt kim's later that night, and more fun to be had with her cousins myah and carter. life was grand.

as i put her to bed that night, i said to mike, "i have a feeling we're going to have to pay for this."

boy was i right.

evie is not finding sleep to her liking while we've been here. she's pretty much keeping california time for going to sleep, but waking up at michigan time. ugh. oh well, it's still a blast to see her have so much fun with all her cousins.

this morning we went over to joe and angela's for a little pool time. evie's first time ever swimming, and my first time in a swimsuit since she was born. frankly i think it was a little stressful for both of us.

first time we went in the water, she was a little tentative and tense, so we took a little break. then she wanted back in and everything changed. she kicked and splashed and had a great time. i think we'll be finding our way there again before we head back.

i have to say the house is beautiful, and the idea of a yard is very appealing. it was a lovely afternoon.

my friend melanie took some great pictures that afternoon. this one on the rocking horse looks so classic.

i think evie and brighton were a little overwhelmed by how much they liked the afternoon and had to express it like this!

the bounce house - in motion

here's a short video of evie getting into the bounce house. she was so happy, it makes me want to get one. ok, i'd settle for just the yard we could put it up in.

look at the joy in that smile!

celebrating in style

zyla's first birthday was on friday, so her family had a nice birthday party for her yesterday. it seemed the perfect occasion to break out the little indian dress that mrs. dhillon brought evie last year.

i expected grumbles and groans when i put her into the outfit, but i should know better by now. the first thing she did was run over to the mirror with a giant smile. she knew it was a special outfit and that she looked good.

yeah, i know, a real girl!

hmmm. mmr

it looks like evie is a 5 percenter, meaning she's among the five percent of people who get a little sick 7-10 days after an mmr vaccination. so far it's not too bad. just a low fever, but i wonder if it's part of the reason that she only napped for a grand total of 30 minutes yesterday (in the car twice for 15 minutes each time).

hopefully she'll feel better today. we've got a party for zyla's first birthday this afternoon, and her grandparents are here from india for the event. i'd really like to be able to go and celebrate, but we'll see how she's doing when she gets up today.

this makes me glad that i chose to skip the chicken pox vaccine this time around. not forever, just to spread things out a bit. knock wood, but hopefully we don't need to worry too much about her being exposed since she's not in daycare. time will tell.

for the most part we're doing all of her recommended immunizations, but i did skip the hep b and the rotovirus. the former was my idea, i was a little surprised in the hospital when they wanted to give my newborn a vaccine for a disease transmitted primarily via needles and sex - didn't seem she should be in too much danger for that. her doc backed up my reasoning, and also suggested that the rotovirus vaccine was pretty new, so not be worth doing since the rotovirus isn't too serious. knocking wood again. i decided to hold off on chicken pox for now, just so her body wouldn't have to deal with so much at one time. now that she's a little sick, i'm really glad.

it's a girl

ok, i've been slowly coming to grips with the fact that i have a girl, and *gulp* she could be a girlie girl. it started with the love of bracelets (she can turn anything into a bracelet), then there was the picking out dresses to wear, then recently the joy over her hot pink shoes. still, i was in denial.

then this morning she put her baby doll to "night night" in a shoe box, closing the lid to put her to sleep (no we do NOT make her sleep in a box, i assume she's imitating closing the door). then a few seconds later she rips off the lid, says "hi" and pulls out the doll to give it hugs and kisses.

god.

she's playing with dolls. i think she must get this girlie side from mike, cuz i don't think it came from me.

i guess she and i have that older men thing in common...
