we attended evie's nanny share partner, paloma's, first birthday party over the weekend. there were a LOT of babies. it's a tad overwhelming. it's nice that palmona is very comfortable with mike (see pic) and me. evie crawled up to dana (paloma's mom) at one point thinking she was me. the two girls are great friends.

i will tell you, though, that i'm starting to realize more and more what kind of mom i'm going to be, or not be, as it were. i am not going to be the birthday party throwing kind of mom. they had rented a half dozen high chairs, had a huge cake, and there were a ton of presents. i think that we'll take evie out of town for her first birthday, so i can avoid all this...

dance fever

evie did a little sitting dance to some indian music playing at the aforementioned lohri celebration.

and, yeah, i know, it looks like she only has one pair of jammies. i swear she has many more, but these are so cute that they're the ones we usually travel with.

family day

yesterday was "san francisco family appreciation day", which meant that many of the city owned attractions were free for families to enjoy. we decided to forego the zoo (and i think we'll continue to skip that one for a while) and go to the deyoung museum in golden gate park.

it was an absolutely gorgeous day, with temps in the mid-sixties, so we met up with our friends frank and claudia, and their son marlon (five days younger than evie) at the park and walked to the museum. this is a picture of the daddies taking charge of the strollers. claudia and i considered ducking off into a bar since they seemed to be handling things so well, but decided that wouldn't really be in the spirit of family day.

evie's first lohri

grandma & grandpa's visit

i meant to post this earlier, but better late than never, right? we took a bunch of pictures during my parent's visit over christmas. you can see the full set by clicking this link.

it was a really nice visit. evie was a bit clingy at the beginning of the visit, but she really warmed up to them by the end of the visit. i'm sure that she's just going to keep getting more and more comfortable with them each visit. i just wish that we were able to get together a little more often.

DSCF1478.JPG this picture was taken as we waited for the train to go downtown and go shopping. grandma's determined to teach evie the finer points of being a consumer ;-).

hostess with the mostess

another great weekend is winding down. we managed to survive the huge storm on friday, even getting out to the eureka valley rec center to meet with the other moms and babies. it was our first time there. the place is fantastic, with a really nice indoor playground. the kids were happy to see each other and left us moms with time to enjoy each other's company and a little coffee. i think we were all a little proud that we managed to get out despite the nasty weather.

so lots of socializing on friday, then on saturday, we got together with claudia, frank and marlon. it started as getting together for a coffee, and ended up with the kids eating together at our place, then the adults sharing pizza, wine and a movie after evie and marlon went to sleep. yes virginia there is a social life.

then on sunday, brighton came and spent the afternoon with us, so that his parents could have a little break. starting this tuesday, brighton and evie will be spending tuesdays together with gladys. we're very excited for that. brighton's personality is so different than evie's. he's a mellow dude (like his parents). perhaps he'll rub off on her a bit...

i finally made it to the new playground at golden gate park with evie. it's absolutely spectacular. we were planning to take her on the carousel, but ran into some friends and went over to the de young again and went up in the observation tower. by the time we got back to the carousel, she was napping.

all in all a lovely day, and nice to remember as the 50 mph winds and rain howl outside.

i really like this picture of the two of us. my girl just brings me so much joy. i loved having 11 days in a row with her.

flower children unite! grandma, evie and i went to the conservatory of flowers in golden gate park the day after christmas (that whole tiger mauling changed our plans to go to the zoo...). we then walked over to the de young and went up in the observation tower for the first time. it was a clear day and the view was spectacular.

i figure spending time in golden gate park will add to evie's "flower child" of san francisco cred. that and me making her listen to joni mitchell, csn&y and the dead. i'm probably going to end up making her a republican...

evie and grandma get down

grandma and grandpa got evie this little radio that plays nine songs. nine songs over and over and over and over.... it was cute when she played it for grandma though

big laughs

evie was all smiles at dinner tonight (who knew that turkey cutlets and polenta could bring such joy).

taking a stand

so little ms. evie has been hovering for a second or two after letting go of furniture for a few weeks, but this morning, she was straight out standing for 3-4 seconds before hitting the ground. i'm guessing walking isn't too far off.

we had a great visit with grandma and grandpa over xmas. i was surprised to see grandpa crawling around on the floor playing with her. pics and videos coming soon.
